Laboratory tests during pregnancy

At the beginning of the pregnancy, the blood group and rhesus factor are determined and an antibody screening test is carried out. This is necessary in order to diagnose a possible blood group incompatibility between you and your child at an early stage.

A smear test for chlamydia is also carried out on the cervix. A screening test for Lues, a rubella antibody test and a hepatitis B test are also required by law. An HIV test can also be carried out on request.

The required antibody screening test is repeated between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy. If the blood group characteristic "Rhesus negative" is determined, you will receive an injection between the 28th and 30th week of pregnancy to prevent possible incompatibility. A blood test to determine the child's Rhesus factor has also been available since 2021 - if you are Rhesus negative, you can save yourself this injection.

In addition, routine checks for bacteria and fungi in the vagina are carried out and the pH value is measured to reduce the risk of premature labor and the risk of premature birth.

Thanks to the close connection to our midwife in the practice, we have developed a close screening network so that we can give you as much security as possible in advance. In addition, there are of course further examinations that we will present to you during the course of your pregnancy.
