Rh-D factor determination

Since 01.07.2021, it has been a benefit of the statutory health insurance to carry out a non-invasive determination of the fetal rhesus D factor from the maternal blood in rhesus-negative pregnant women from pregnancy week 11+0 and preferably from 18+6.

This test eliminates the need for rhesus prophylaxis (injection in the 28th to 30th week of pregnancy) if the fetus is rhesus negative. The sensitivity of this test for detecting the rhesus D gene is 99.93%. We are informed about this in accordance with the German Genetic Diagnostics Act, for which we have a license in our practice. Regardless of the result of this prenatal blood test, the blood group of the newborn must be determined serologically from the umbilical cord blood after birth, as was previously the case.
