First Trimester Screening at Gynaecologist Munich

The first trimester screening at your gynecologist in Munich

The first trimester screening is a non-invasive and risk-free method in early pregnancy for individual risk assessment of the possible existence of chromosomal defects in the unborn child.

By screening / ultrasonography (also called skin fold measurement) and a special blood test, the risk of childhood trisomy 21 may (also trisomies 13, 18 - also known as Down syndrome, Mongoloismus) and other rarer diseases are determined.

This investigation will determine 12 to 14 weeks gestation, whether an increased risk for these genetic disorders is present. The possible discovery rate is over 80% and can be increased by additional studies to over 90%.

During the ultrasound of the first trimester screening, we shall also make an early diagnosis of malformations. Thus we enable the detection of further embryonic not typical development. For a more specific sonographic diagnosis of malformations, I recommend you in my network of experts in Munich (DEGUM II / III certified for precision ultrasonic). This enables the diagnosis of possible abnormalities on the heart, the brain or other organs. This usually takes place 20 to 22 weeks gestation.

We encourage you to let carry out the blood sampling for the first-trimester screening in our gynecological practice in Munich a few days before the ultrasound examination. The result of the laboratory examination is therefore present the specific ultrasound scan and can be discussed together as findings with you.
